This is not who we are, who gave us this right? To be a Creator of walls, causing us to judge, slur and fight. Yet we all started out the same way, Human first. Experiencing hardships and love every day. Though somehow the same colour we all bleed,
Is now a weapon, asking what percentage, makes me feel like a breed.
It’s not just me that experiences these inappropriate asks,
It’s led to us code-switching our true voice, wearing a corporate mask.
But WAIT, you say that’s not happening, then you don’t understand. Studies show diverse minds, have an impact, yet WE feel stuck in quicksand. Anti-racist is not a hard way to live, be, or do. Be human first, compassionate, kind and AUTHENTICALLY show up too. Allow us the same grace to feel home in our body at work. The conditioning of the past is the issue, legacys are not always a perk.
The ideas, lens, and behaviours were taught from a colonial point of view,
I don’t want to assimilate anymore, romanticizing history, those stories untrue. The world is finally ready to awaken, now our institutions must prepare to be shaken. The internalized messages must be addressed everywhere. At home, with yourself, at work and manifested in the air.
This is a revolution years waiting to be truly seen and heard,
Let me assure you, going back cannot happen, the oppression is absurd. Yet we stand in our traumas of micro-aggressions and clear examples,
Showing our strength in numbers, full force now, no more samples. The time is now to call out “diversity and inclusion”, it needs to be anti-racist, saying that we are there would be a delusion.
It’s okay if you are only starting to address your biases now,
Our hands, heart, and minds are open, we will share how.
So our call to action is for you to show up, witness, and then act. Unlearn, relearn, join the awakening, make a commitment, then share your pact.
The time is now for the societal past and current ways to be corrected,
Remember our youth follow the lead. Teach them to WAKE UP. HUMAN FIRST. And WE are all connected.
